The Normative Value of Making a Positive Contribution–Benefiting Others as a Core Dimension of Meaningful Work

Abstract Most normative accounts of meaningful work have focused on the value autonomy and capability for self-development. Here, I will propose that contribution–having a positive impact others through one’s work–is another central dimension work. Being able to contribute should be recognized as one key axiological values can serve, providing independent justification why is valuable worth doing.
